It was 14 years ago yesterday that Dad went to be with the Lord, Mom and i observe the 23rd each month by doing or eating a favorite of Dad's, yestereday we went to the store looking for just that, something special. And we did, we decided on a mini thanksgiving meal complete with cornbread dressing, sweet potatoes topped with mini marshmallows, carrotts, fresh green beans and pumpkin pie with gobbs of cool whip to wash it down. Dad would have loved the smells coming from the kitchen, and to top it off Mom made a pot of homemade vegetable soup. Yesterday was a good breakfast of cold pumpkin pie and coffee, today though was vegetable soup, cold pumpkin pie and coffee. Now that is a breakfast!
While shopping yesterday it was an experience that you only find in the country, at wal-mart we shopped with both amish and mennonite's, it is interesting to watch them shop. While the older generations may have grown and made most thing's they consume, the younger generations have for the most part abandoned that for an easier way of life. They use disposable diapers, buy item's but the case such as cake mixes, icing, hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, ice cream, cereal, little debbies, butter, milk, cheese, etc. They love junk food, so as we ventured into another store we saw more Amish and Mennonites.
As we were checking out 3 Amish women sat on a bench inside the store, they were sharing a mid-day snack of cheetos and ice cream sandwiches. When we go to Sharp Shopper you will see them come in there horse and buggy to shop, there are more and more of them moving into the area, While they may hold fast to some of there way's, shopping is something the younger generation's really like to do. While they still pay in cash, it is funny to see the Mennonite's use credit cards.
Times are changing, evidently for everyone.
